Mohiniyattam
Mohiniyattam, the famous classical dance form was developed in Kerala, the earliest evidence of Mohiniyattam was found in a temple structure in Kerala. Mohiniyattam, the name originates from another name ‘Mohini’ an avatar of the Lord Vishnu that appeared during a battle between the Devas and the Asuras for the Amrita (Nectar of Immortality). Mohiniyattam’s roots are found in the Natya Shastra a Hindu text on performing arts. It is a traditionally solo dance performed by women and the song is typically in Malayalam-Sanskrit hybrid called Manipravalam.
